| Qian et al. and Tuomisto and Ruokolainen critique our analyses of elevational and latitudinal variation in tree diversity. We address their points by reanalyzing different subsets of our data and by clarifying certain misconceptions, and reiterate that gradients in ß diversity can be explained in the elevational and latitudinal tree data sets by variation in the size of species pools. | |
